Tuscany Part 2

The walls of Montecchiello and the tiny restaurant 'La Porta,' recommended

Thursday, October 30
Further south into Tuscany, Montecchiello

Taking the little back roads to enjoy the amazing countryside. Our destination is a hamlet located at the top of a hill and surrounded by a medieval wall with towers. It is like a little Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

Jim stayed at a B&B inthe tiny medieval hamlet of Montecchiello several years ago and it was a very nice experience. Inexpensive and yet so centrally located for exploring Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino and the gorgeous Val d’Orcia.

We can visit Montepulciano today. Jim knows a nice wine shop where you can sample wine and they will ship it home for you. It is not as expensive as you may think. Jim's clients have had no problems with delivery or breakage. Excellent bottles of 'Super Tuscan' wines go for around 30 - 35 Euro.

Saturday, Nov 1: around this region
Pienza is well worth visiting as is Montalcino, famous for its Brunello di Montalcino.
Also, we visit a nearby ancient church where at various times of the day monks still chant as they did many hundreds of years ago. This is not far from Montalcino. It is called Sant Antimo.

Sant Antimo located not far from Montalcino
